Marketplace Fee & Profit Calculator (eBay, Etsy, Amazon & More)
Instantly estimate marketplace fees, payment charges, shipping costs & ads. See net profit, margin %, break-even price, and target price for any item.
🧾 Overview
The Marketplace Fee & Profit Calculator is designed for eBay, Etsy, Amazon, and other marketplace sellers who want to estimate total fees, net profit, profit margin, and break-even price before listing an item. Whether you are a casual reseller, a small online shop, or a professional seller, this calculator helps you understand the true cost of selling and avoid unpleasant surprises when marketplace fees and shipping costs eat into your margin.
The tool supports fee presets by marketplace and category (editable), calculates payment processing fees, promoted listings ad costs, and even allows solving for your target price to achieve a chosen margin. It’s also currency-flexible, letting you work in USD, EUR, GBP, or your own custom currency.
⚙️ How the Calculator Works
- Revenue (Rev): Item Price + Shipping Charged to the buyer.
- Marketplace Fee: % applied to item price (some platforms include shipping).
- Promoted Listings Fee: Optional % of item price spent on ads.
- Payment Fee: % of total revenue plus a fixed per-transaction charge.
- COGS: Cost of goods sold (your purchase/manufacturing cost).
- Other Costs: Packaging, returns buffer, software, subscriptions, or any other hidden costs.
- Net Profit: Revenue − (COGS + shipping cost + all fees).
- Margin %: Profit ÷ Revenue × 100.
- Break-even Price: The minimum price needed to avoid losses.
- Target Price: The price required to reach your chosen margin %.
This tool shows you in real time how every dollar of fees or shipping affects your margin. You can also use the Solve buttons to automatically calculate the break-even point or target price for a given margin goal.
📐 Formula Used
Revenue (Rev) = Price + ShippingCharged Marketplace Fee = Price × m% Ad Fee = Price × a% Payment Fee = (Price + ShippingCharged) × p% + Fixed Total Fees = Marketplace Fee + Ad Fee + Payment Fee Profit = Revenue − (COGS + ShippingCost + Other + Total Fees) Margin % = Profit ÷ Revenue × 100 Break-even Price: P * (1 − m − a − p) = (COGS + ShipCost + Other + Fixed) − ShippingCharged × (1 − p) Target Price for Margin t: P * (1 − m − a − p − t) = (COGS + ShipCost + Other + Fixed) − ShippingCharged × (1 − p − t)
🧪 Example Calculation
Scenario: You are selling a T-shirt on eBay for $30 with free shipping.
- Item Price = $30, Shipping Charged = $0, Shipping Cost = $5
- COGS = $12, Marketplace Fee = 12.9%, Payment Fee = 2.99% + $0.30, Ads = 2%
- Revenue: $30
- Fees: (30×0.129) + (30×0.02) + (30×0.0299 + 0.30) ≈ $3.87 + $0.60 + $1.20 = $5.67
- Profit: 30 − (12 + 5 + 5.67) = $7.33
- Margin: 7.33 ÷ 30 = 24.4%
- If you want a 30% margin, use the Solve Target Price button and the calculator will give the required price.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do the presets include all marketplaces?
No. The calculator covers major platforms (eBay, Etsy, Amazon, Shopify, Allegro, etc.) with common public fee data. However, exact fees vary by country, category, and account plan. Always confirm in your seller dashboard.
Are payment processing fees included?
Yes. Most marketplaces charge a % on total revenue (item + shipping) plus a fixed fee. The calculator applies both automatically, but you can override them.
How do promoted listings or ads affect results?
The promoted listings % is applied to the item price. Higher ad rates lower your profit. Use this field to test ROI of ad spend.
Does free shipping reduce profit?
If you offer free shipping, set "Shipping Charged" = 0 and enter your actual shipping cost. The calculator will subtract this from profit.
What counts as “Other Costs”?
Any hidden or indirect expenses: packaging, fulfillment fees, software subscriptions, returns/warranty reserve, storage, etc.
Can I calculate in different currencies?
Yes. Select USD, EUR, GBP, or others. If your currency is not listed, choose "Custom…" and type your symbol (e.g. AED, kr, zł).
What is the break-even price?
The minimum price at which profit = 0. It’s the line where you cover all costs and fees without making a loss.
What is the target price function?
You can set a target margin %, and the calculator will solve for the item price required to achieve that profit margin.
Are subscription fees (like eBay store plans) included?
No. Monthly subscription or fulfillment service fees (like FBA) are not included. You can add them manually under "Other Costs."
Why does my break-even say “N/A”?
This happens if combined fees and margin targets exceed 100% of the price, making it mathematically impossible to break even.
Can I share my calculation with someone else?
Yes. Use the Share Link button. It copies a URL containing your input values so others see the exact same scenario.
